About Me
I am Dr. Raenita A. Fenner, an associate professor and the chair of engineering at Loyola University Maryland. I hold a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Michigan State University and have over ten years of experience in teaching and research.
As a researcher, I have a wide range of interests in engineering education and electromagnetics. My published works include numerous papers applying evolutionary algorithms to free space material characterization. I have also received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop assessment tools for measuring the quantitative literacy of engineering students.
In addition to my research, I am a dedicated and passionate teacher. I have taught a wide range of undergraduate courses in engineering, including courses on electromagnetics, communications, signals and systems, electronics, and linear circuits analysis laboratory. I am known for my engaging teaching style and commitment to helping students develop a deep understanding of engineering concepts and principles.
I am also a valuable member of the academic community and have generously shared my expertise by reviewing papers for several well-regarded engineering journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, and Measurement. I am also a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
As a faculty advisor for the Society of Women Engineers section at Loyola, my goal is to empower and support women in engineering and STEM fields. I am also the Director of the African and African American Studies (AAAS) Minor, where I am crucial in promoting and advancing the study of African and African American history, culture, and society at Loyola. Additionally, I am a member of the Maryland Higher Education Commission's Faculty Advisory Council, where I strive to ensure that the voices of faculty members are heard and that their perspectives are taken into account when making decisions that impact higher education in Maryland.
Outside of work, I am a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and actively participate in community service projects supporting education, health, and social justice. Additionally, I am passionate about playing and learning about tennis and cherish spending quality time with loved ones.
